FAQ

  • What is a Masterclass?
Daily lessons are taught in the “master class” style and are one of the most valuable experiences at OWMSI. The students will be in a group of 3-4 students, depending on level, and will meet with their teacher each day. The student will work with the teacher in front of the small group and will observe the other students and learn alongside their peers.

  • What are group classes?

Group classes are an integral component of our program. Regardless of skill level, every student will participate in a daily group class, where they will join peers at a similar level. These classes not only provide a platform for students to perform Suzuki pieces but also foster a sense of community and collaboration. As part of this experience, students may also receive additional pieces to learn, further enhancing their ensemble skills.

  • What is chamber ensembles?
The chamber ensemble program is open to violin and viola students Suzuki book 5+ and cello and bass students Suzuki book 4+. Each quartet will meet daily and be coached by an experienced faculty member. To maximize their experience, students will receive their music in advance, allowing them to arrive at camp well-prepared, familiar with their parts, and ready to practice as an ensemble. By the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to showcase their hard work with a performance on day 5.

  • Do I need to attend camp with my child?
Guardians in attendance at the institute are expected to be present at their child’s masterclasses and group classes in order to assist with practicing (Exception: Practice Pathways students and students level Book 7 and up who are age 13 or above and independent note-takers).

  • Will there be performances?

Yes! Performing is an integral part of camp and the Suzuki philosophy. Students participating in group class, orchestra and/or chamber will have concerts towards the end of camp. Extra curricular classes will also have a chance to perform. In addition, we also have daily student recitals and everyone is welcome to present their polished piece with one of our pianist accompanists.

  • How long will registration be open?

Registration will remain open until all student spaces are filled or until June 15th, whichever comes first.

  • Are there payment plan options?

To secure registration, a fee of $125 per person and 25% of the total bill will be required at the time of registration. All subsequent payments, depending on the registration date, will be set up in 25% chunks, with the final installment due by May 8th. Monthly invoices will be sent. • Can I make housing requests?

As you register your family for OWMSI, you'll find a designated section on the registration form where you can make specific housing requests. A request may include preference to stay close-by to other families or to stay in a particular cabin. When creating housing assignments, we are careful to try to accommodate all requests, but can not guarantee, based on availability.
